On merging contemporary design with heritage

House on Bassett Road by Paul+O Architects.

London based architectural practice Paul+O Architects, have created a dramatic 6m double-height glass extention that connects first floors, for a Victorian house redesign in Kensington. Using simple materials and minimal design to subtly separate the addition from the original structure, they incorporated a unique motorized oversized triple sash window supplied by Vitrocsa, that opens up to the garden, while offering a stunning space dedicated to bringing the family together .

The 6.4m x 4m Guillotine window, works as an interpretation of the Victorian sash window, on a much larger scale. It extends to the full height and width of the extension, flooding the principal living spaces with light and creating uninterrupted views of south-facing garden. The architects introduced this intervention in the rear of the double-fronted townhouse and retained the intengrity of the facade as the building is located in a conservation area.
