“Mind your step” is a a street illusion made by photographer and retouch artist, Erik Johansson at the famous square Sergels torg in the heart of Stockholm. The installation comprised of a large scale, 32 x 18 meters (105′ x 59′ feet) print, giving the impression of a hole right down in the ground when viewed from the right perspective.
Here is how the artist describes his process, to add a layer of surreal within the city: “I’ve been doing creative retouch and surreal montages for a few years now but I’ve always been quite fascinated by perspective illusions. I had the idea of doing something real, more like an installation. My idea was to put a photo in an environment and actually trick people that it would be 3-dimensional. Street illusions isn’t something new, but I wanted to try to make it as a photo instead of drawing to see if I could make it look even more real. Photography is my medium and I wanted it to look as realistic as possible, just like my photos.”
